The Pipes and Drums of the London Scottish Regiment

So as it says on the tin above, I have recently been going along to the London Scottish Pipes and Drums.
They practice in Horseferry Road Westminster where they have an impressive hall. Here is the floor of the entrance.

There is a fire place surround that is a WWl memorial. Of course when I say fire place surround I mean I think it started out that way and wound up being...Well, more of a wall with what I calculate to be 1200 odd names on it. With two Hays and a Crawford. (no wightman's).

A little boring history for you the London Scottish regiment was the first TA regiment to hit the trenches of WW1(Messines Oct 1914 1st Battalion) were they sustantined 394 casualties (including 4 Pipers) only one piper remained after 6 months out of the original 11. They then decided to take band members out of the line.

I only had my cell phone camera with me so the pics are a little bad sorry.

There is also a wall of clan plaques. So I took some pics of that two. Can you spot the one in the middle.

Last Thursday they had a group of visitors so the band paraded in "day wear" (basically dressed up but any kilt you like) here is a very short video of that.

I'll try and keep you updated with what happens here.

Be-lated update

Kia Ora. (well, we were in NZ only a few weeks ago... )

So... VERY long time, no entry. Sorry.

Quick update on the last month or so.

Very 'quick' trip back home, was amazing to see so many people again, and SUNSHINE!!!!! very nice! and Mel and Tim's wedding was fantastic! I had such a good time! Felt very honoured to be a bridesmaid and get to do fun stuff (like the hens weekend, and, the best, helping Mel get ready on the day... sigh... going all girly now...)

Family was also high on the agenda back home and seeing new homes and bumps and things, all very cool.

Getting off the plane and seeing not only Alex's parents (which was so good!) but also Aunty Nette and my mum, yeah, very good!

Anyways, a few photos from the short visit... might add more later when I get the photos off Alex's camera...

The afternoon of the Hens weekend, on the balcony over looking Kapiti Island. Notice we are all wearing very stunning tiaras.... :)

Later on in the evening, watching the sunset after a fantastic dinner of Hells pizza... what happened after this photo was taken can neither confirm, nor deny....

Mel and her survival kit that Rachael very kindly put together, some very cool things in there that we did end up using...

All the girls walking along the beach on Sunday in the sunshine (yes, I did get burnt :( ) Good view of Kapiti though....

yah, getting Mel dressed, hair all done, makeup all done, just Rachael and myself trying to up buttons...
Mel looking gorgeous! :)
Apparently, according to some of my students to whom I showed this photo... I scrub up okay.... (although some of them found it hard to pick me out of group shots.. because I was looking 'too pretty'... awww.... sometimes I do love my students!)
Anyways, yeah, that's probably enough.... although I am waiting on some better photos of Alex... hmmm.....
last photo is in Singapore, where it was hot and sticky.... very sticky... although it was great to have a good bed and a shower to break up the flight back to London.
This is Sir Thomas Stafford Raffles, and the statue is on the sight on the river where he landed in 1819, so, yeah... cool.
Anyways, enough for now... we have booked in a little trip over Easter, and then the weekend after, we are off to another wedding (in a fairly old church... more later...)
And we are trying to do more museums, last week was the V&A, this weekend has been quiet, as I have been quite sick, never mind, getting better now...
All good.
time for Brunch...
